Way Less Sad—AJR
Heard this song a few months ago while listening to Madison on Alt Nation. It resonated with me because I can relate to the lyrics.
I’m a-okay, I’m a-okay (ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah)
You say it but you just don’t mean it
I’ve talked about how saying “it’s fine” really isn’t. We have these BS phrases we use when holding back what we really think or feel.
You’re so insane, your so insane (ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah)
Shut up and just enjoy this feelin’
Ever have people wonder why you’re never satisfied?
Don’t you love it, don’t you love it?
No, I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
Overthinking about a creative project you’re working on?
Well, I can’t fall asleep and I’m losin’ my mind
Cause it’s half-past three and my brain’s on fire
And I’m not dead yet
So I guess I’ll be alright
It’s human nature to doubt ourselves and worry about getting things just right. Time and again, I’ve held back waiting to achieve some “perfect” solution when the key was the idea that kickstarts the process.
I may be wrong (I may be wrong)
I may be wrong (I may be wrong)
Once you get the courage to bounce that idea off of someone, it progresses. Your confidence increases. You go back and tweak it. Then you’re ready to brainstorm with others again. Then you finish it.
Perfect is the Enemy of Good so move forward. Your initial idea is probably a good one that leads to more ideation and eventually a solution.
Don’t you love it, don’t you love it?
No, I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
Da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da
And remember to celebrate your successes but keep them in perspective because there’s more to come.
