Seth Godin has been providing marketing and leadership advice for decades. One of his phrases made an impact on me years ago:

The right strategy makes any tactic work better.

I’ve found people want to take action quickly and don’t dedicate enough time to mapping out the strategy.

This leads to frustration and phrases like:

“We’ve tried (INSERT MARKETING ACTIVITY) but it didn’t work.”

When I probe as to what they did, it becomes apparent that the tactic and execution weren’t as much of the problem as the lack of a cohesive strategy.

Take the time to systematically gather insights, leverage your instincts and discover trends. Then craft a meaningful strategy for what you want to achieve because the right strategy makes any tactic work better.
