Sights & Sounds – 1999
Scrubs by TLC

A scrub is a guy that thinks he’s fly

And is also known as a buster

Yeah, those people are unfortunately a dime a dozen. Their lack of self awareness results in an inflated view of their strengths and blind spots when it comes to their weaknesses.

Always talkin’ about what he wants

And just sits on his broke ass

Ah, the wannabe. It’s easy to say you want something. Just about everyone dreamed of doing something big. The reality is most people sit on the sidelines when it comes time to put themselves out there.

Hanging out the passenger side

Of his best friend’s ride

Trying to holler at me

Big talk, little results. Why? Pick your reason. Fear of failure. Lack of desire. Unwillingness to commit to doing the work. You’ve heard it before because it’s true. Success comes from setting goals, building plans and making the commitment to improve.

But a scrub is checkin’ me

But his game is kinda weak

Then there are the fakers. People that confuse activity with productivity. It’s more than just putting the time in. It’s about deliberate practice—repeatedly doing the specific tasks necessary to improve in areas where you can build a competitive advantage.

And I know that he cannot approach me

‘Cause I’m lookin’ like class and he’s lookin’ like trash

When you’ve made the commitment, done the deliberate practice, worked your plan and believe in yourself, you’re ready to win…or lose with class. No one wins all the time and losing still stinks. But we regret losses more when we weren’t prepared (which results in nervousness or lack of confidence).

No scrub

No scrub (no, no)

No scrub (no, no, no, no, no)

No scrub (no, no)

No

Yes. You actually do decide whether you are one or not.
